The pilot of an FA-18 jet fighter ejected safely when the plane crashed on takeoff at Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base, a spokeswoman said. Lt. Col. Pat Sullivan was hospitalized briefly for observation after the weekend crash, a Marine spokeswoman said.
