Nancy Lieberman, who became the first woman to play on a men’s pro basketball team, signed with a new men’s team on Long Island. In fact, Lieberman, 28, is the only player signed by the Long Island Knights. She is also the first person to have a multiyear contract in the United States Basketball League, team officials said.

Lieberman was the first woman in professional sports to compete in an all-male league when she played for the Springfield Flame of the USBL last year. The 5-10 former star at Old Dominion averaged 1.7 points and 1.3 assists in 21 games.

The Knights officially became a member of the league on Tuesday when Dynamic Capital Corp. purchased the franchise from the USBL.

Lieberman said she expected to see more playing time this year under Coach Dean Meminger, who was on the New York Knicks’ NBA championship team of 1972-73 and previously coached her in semipro leagues.
