Downey : Addition to Schools Office
The Board of Education has approved a $1-million, 10,000-square-foot addition to the Downey Unified School District’s administration building. On a 6-1 vote, board members decided to hire the Los Angeles architectural firm of Silvestri and Johnson to plan for the two-story addition. Board member Robert E. Riley cast the no vote.
The addition will enable the district to centralize its administrative services, making space for departments housed in temporary buildings and rooms in some schools, district spokesman Michele Swanson said. No completion date has been set for the project, which will be constructed with district building funds.
