This Laker Blowout Got Out of Hand

Share

The recent Laker blowout over the Sacramento Kings makes me recall a neutral court game the Lakers played at the Long Beach Arena against the New York Knicks in January, 1967. If memory serves, the Lakers were annihilating New York, 42-14, at the end of the first quarter. Needless to say, many fans departed early. Final score: Knicks 125, Lakers 122.

Please be careful when labeling the remainder of the game “garbage time.” Some of your journalists quite possibly have been watching too many college games.

Editor’s note--Reader Leach has a pretty good memory. On Jan. 8, 1967, the Lakers jumped off to a 41-14 lead over the Knicks after one period. But the Knicks rallied behind ex-Laker Dick Barnett to win, 121-118.
