ANTI-TIMES, ANTI-’PLATOON,’ ANTI-WAR, ANTI-JANE

With “Platoon” we now have an insulated worm’s-eye view of the infantry man’s life in Vietnam. He has my sympathy. But that is entertainment?

Sure, the film makers did a superb job, but who wants it? A running time of practically unrelieved violence and “language,” it becomes monotonous. Is this an atonement for our being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Best violence for 1986 maybe. But Best Picture? Over my dead body!
