Dow: Two Records in One Day

NEW YORK — Wall Street stocks soared to a record close today on the biggest one-day point gain ever as investors took an upbeat view of prospects for the economy and concern over insider-trading arrests eased.
The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials closed up 54.14 at 2,237.49. The previous record one-day gain was 51.60, set Jan. 22.
New York Stock Exchange volume was about 187.82 million shares compared with 184.38 million shares Friday.
