Lawndale : Contracting Law Rejected
The City Council rejected a proposed ordinance that would have required contractors to give customers written estimates before beginning work after the city attorney said enforcement of the ordinance would be nearly impossible.
Councilman Dan McKenzie, who had proposed the ordinance, reluctantly agreed, but said something should be done to help residents, particularly the elderly, from being overcharged by unscrupulous contractors.
Mayor Sarann Kruse said the city would contact its state legislators to see if anything could be done at that level.
