Oklahoma linebacker Brian Bosworth could be ineligible for next season because his picture was used in a newspaper and TV advertising campaign for a group of fitness centers. That’s an apparent violation of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules, a school spokesman said.
A spokesman for the fitness center said, however, that Bosworth did not know that his name or pictures would be used in the advertising. Bosworth was also scheduled to make a public appearance at the club Saturday.
“We didn’t see anything wrong because Brian didn’t even know about it,” said Gary Reall, director of advertising for All-American Fitness and Racquetball Center. “I hate to see him get in trouble.”
Bosworth was unavailable for immediate comment about the advertising that appeared in the Tulsa World, the Tulsa Tribune and on at least one Tulsa television station.
Dan Gibbens, Oklahoma faculty representative for the NCAA, said the school will conduct an internal inquiry.
