“The Mission,” a story about Jesuits in 18th-Century South America and an Oscar nominee for “best picture,” received a Gold Angel during the 10th Angel Awards in Los Angeles for media productions with moral and spiritual impact.
The board of the Los Angeles-based Religion in Media also announced at its Thursday night ceremony at Ambassador Hotel the selection of NBC’s “Christmas Eve,” starring Loretta Young, as the best movie for television in 1986 and Radio City Music Hall’s “The Magnificent Christmas Spectacular” as Gold Angel winners.
In competition for Silver Angel awards, ABC-TV won 10 statuettes for entries that included a drug abuse commercial by actor Bruce Willis.
CBS-TV did not enter and NBC-TV did not win with its one competitive entry. The rules permit unlimited entries, and Trinity Broadcasting Network, based in Tustin, led the Christian networks with 11 winners from 24 entries.
Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network won nine Silver Angels with 11 entries.
