A long-proposed branch of Cal State Fullerton may be situated on the campus of Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

Jack Coleman, Cal State Fullerton’s vice president for academic affairs, said he and university President Jewel Plummer Cobb recently inspected the Saddleback campus “and were very impressed with the possibilities there.”

Coleman said the university officials were invited to look over about 22 acres of available land at Saddleback by Richard Sneed, the community college’s chancellor.

Sneed said the 22 acres are available because Saddleback is getting new high-rise buildings clustered on another area of the community college.

Coleman said Cal State Fullerton will be making a decision on where to situate the branch within the next 60 days.

The university wants to start a south county facility to help junior- and senior-level students who want to go beyond community college but who find it difficult to commute to the Fullerton campus.
