More than 200,000 pounds of food were distributed over the weekend to needy San Joaquin Valley residents who agreed to donate two hours of work per month to community groups in a new program called SHARE, or Self Help and Resource Exchange. Operating in 19 valley communities, the organization provides each participant with 50 pounds of food per month, at a cost of $12, in exchange for community work. Director Sam Alibrando, declaring the program’s launch from its Fresno headquarters a success, said he hopes that the “sense of mission and teamwork” will continue as the program becomes more established.
