People who still smoke despite links between tobacco and lung cancer are more likely to be blue-collar workers or high school dropouts than white-collar professionals with several diplomas, the American Lung Assn. said. The nonprofit group said it would begin an attempt to reach people surveys show are more likely to smoke: those who are less educated, hold less prestigious jobs or who are members of minority groups, especially blacks. Some 54 million Americans smoke, nearly a third of the population, the report said.
