Free Press

I realize that usually Letters to the Editor are in a way “a voice of the people” to protest what they see as unjust, pertaining to the paper itself or the world at large. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the free press of this country for its mere existence, not to mention its progressive growth.

I have just returned from South Africa, a country where freedom of any kind, especially in the press, no longer exists. I have seen what life without this basic form of communication can mean.

We take so much for granted over here in America, we become so cynical, so negative of some of our most precious freedoms. I, for one, will always hold the much maligned American press in a much higher esteem as a result of being to a place where the free press no longer exists. Believe me, that is not good news for anyone.
