An elderly Culver City man who didn’t get along with his 14-year-old grandson shot the boy twice in the head with a .38-caliber revolver, then killed himself in the backyard, police said. The boy, Chris Spanier, underwent surgery at Brotman Medical Center and was reported in critical condition. Anton Spanier, 77, left a note, the contents of which were not disclosed. But relatives told investigators that Spanier, who lived with his son’s family, had been suffering from cancer. Spanier’s daughter-in-law, Yolanda, took her daughter to school Monday and returned to find Chris had been shot in bed, according to Sgt. Lee Cantrell. Another son, 16, who was in another bedroom, was not harmed.
