R.H. Estates : 4-H Guide Dog Program

Share

A local 4-H Club program to raise puppies as guide dogs for the blind was endorsed in a resolution by the City Council this week.

The action was taken at the request of several 4-H Club members, who are raising the puppies as part of the Guide Dog Project based in San Rafael.

Trevor Lattin, 4-H junior leader, said part of the training involves bringing the animals into stores and other social situations where they can experience the noise and other distractions encountered by the blind.

The group hopes that the city’s endorsement will help create greater understanding and support among business owners, who must give permission before the dogs in training may enter stores.
