The Coast Guard and Navy abandoned an air and sea search for 18 crewmen from a Filipino cargo ship that capsized in a howling North Atlantic storm. Only one seaman was saved. The storm, which earlier claimed three other victims off the New Jersey coast, continued to blow at up to 45 knots and pile waves up to 35 feet. Although it listed only five as known dead, the Coast Guard said four other men had disappeared from sight and nine had been missing since the ship, the Balsa 24, was abandoned Tuesday.
