Pacific Palisades resident Jerve M. Jones has been appointed to the board of trustees at Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center. Jones is chief executive officer of Pack/Jones Construction. A graduate of USC, he is a former national president of the Construction Management Assn. of America.

Beverly Hills businessman Sam Katz has been installed for his second year as president of the Friends of Tel Hashomer, the Los Angeles-based support group for Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Israel.

R. Dwane Krumme has been appointed the first director of corporate relations at Pepperdine University. Krumme is also director of the university’s management institute and former president of First Interstate Bancard Co. John D. Thomas, an attorney with the U. S. Justice Department’s office of legislative affairs, has been named director of development and external affairs at the School of Law, and Roddy Wolper, former director of news and information at SMU, has been appointed director of public information.

J. Clayburn La Force, dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Management, has announced the appointment of Michael Brennan to the Goldyne and Irwin Hearsh Chair in Money and Banking. Formerly on the faculty of the University of British Columbia, Brennan holds degrees from Oxford University, the University of Pittsburgh and MIT. He is the first professor to be named to the Hearsh chair. Irwin Hearsh, who died recently, was a partner in Hearsh Bros., a Los Angeles-based investment company. He was also a director of Manufacturers Bank (now Mitsui Manufacturers Bank) and of Republic Indemnity Co. of America. Hearsh received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA in economics in 1934.

Westwood internist Dr. Jokichi Takamine, a specialist in the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse, has received the 1987 National Drug Abuse Medicine Award. The annual awards ceremony is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center and the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA.

Pacific Palisades resident Jan Kern has received a special recognition award from the California Alliance Concerned With School-Age Parents. Kern, who is coordinator for the Adolescent Pregnancy Child Watch program for the Los Angeles area, was recognized for her efforts to prevent teen-age pregnancy.
