Look out, Great Expectations. The Los Angeles computer/video date-and-mate-finding service can expect competition by April--from the direction of video stores. Another L.A. company, called VideoMate, is planning to market two dating-service tapes then, one for men and one for women. Selling for $29.95, each tape will feature 75 prospects of the opposite sex speaking for about a minute or less. To make contact with the hunk or hunkess who pleases your eye, you have to send in the enclosed application and “a small fee.” VideoMate is still looking for “interesting people sincere about finding someone” for the tapes. Information: (213) 456-1696.

Latest news about CD Video: A fall launch is expected, with most or all of the major record companies involved. Only CBS still shows some reluctance. . . . Arbitron estimates that 42% of U.S. homes, and 50% in Los Angeles, have VCRs. Tired of those $1,000 prices on video camcorders? How does $150 sound--for a new camcorder. That’s the tag on a Fisher-Price model scheduled to be sold in--here’s the catch-- toy stores later this year. More catches: The “tot-shot” camera records only in black and white, and only up to 11 minutes--using both sides of a standard 90-minute audio cassette! Now , that $150 may not sound so cheap. But if Dad can have his expensive playthings, why not his lucky (read spoiled rotten ) kids?
