New Zealand authorities estimated damage at more than $8.4 million in the earthquake that rocked farming and forest areas of the country’s North Island, leaving 25 people injured and two missing. They said the estimate should cover the cost of rebuilding roads, bridges and buildings damaged in the quake, which measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, the worst in New Zealand since 1968.
