X-Rays on Orioles’ Knight Reveal the Presence of 25 Kidney Stones
Third baseman Ray Knight missed part of Tuesday’s workout with the Baltimore Orioles while undergoing an X-ray examination that revealed 25 kidney stones.
“They want to do a 24-hour workup,” Knight said, “to find out if I can get medication to combat the formation of stones or eliminate them.”
Knight, signed as a free agent after failing to reach agreement with the World Series champion New York Mets, said he has had the condition for years.
“I had an operation in 1984 because of blockage,” he said. “I passed more stones in 1985, three last season, and three more in the past three weeks.”
Because of the increased frequency, Knight said, it was decided to make a thorough examination.
“There’s a lot of discomfort and pain,” he said, “but it won’t interrupt my work.”
