Director Elia Kazan, 77, is to receive the Directors Guild of America’s D.W. Griffith Award, the guild announced Tuesday. Kazan, who won Oscars for “Gentleman’s Agreement” and “On the Waterfront,” will receive the guild’s prestigious award for outstanding achievement and lifetime contribution to film at its annual awards dinner in New York on Saturday. Kazan’s award will be presented by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, the director of “All About Eve” and “Cleopatra,” who received the guild’s award from Kazan last year.
