Former Sen. Howard H. Baker Jr., President Reagan’s new chief of staff, resigned as a director of American Telephone & Telegraph Co. The company has not decided whether a new director will be named to replace him.

Baker resigned the the board of MCA Inc. on Tuesday. He was elected to the AT&T; board in 1985 and was to stand for reelection at the April 15 shareholders’ meeting.
