Carter Doran, dean of humanities and social sciences at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, has been named vice chancellor of academic affairs at Rancho Santiago Community College in Santa Ana. Doran received his doctorate in communications and drama at USC. He has worked at Mt. San Antonio College for 20 years.

Sarah Flores, assistant chief deputy to Supervisor Pete Schabarum, has received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Glendora Business and Professional Women’s Club. Flores was one of the founders of the Los Angeles County Commission on the Status of Women. She serves on the board of directors of the YWCA and the El Monte Girls Club. Flores was honored for her work on behalf of women’s issues in Los Angeles County.

Dr. Willis Wingert of Claremont has been awarded the Job Lewis Smith Award by the American Academy of Pediatrics for outstanding service in community pediatrics. Wingert is head physician and director of the Pediatric Ambulatory Service at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and is director of the USC Venom Laboratory. Wingert also is a consultant on venom poisoning for the Los Angeles County Medical Assn. Regional Poison Control Center.

Nancy Still of La Verne has been appointed associate director of alumni affairs at Cal Poly Pomona. Still previously was coordinator of special events at Abilene Christian University in Texas and an administrative assistant in the Texas State Legislature.

Duane Carlberg of La Verne has been reappointed to the Los Angeles County Hospitals Commission by Supervisor Pete Schabarum. Carlberg is director and administrator of Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina. He is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the American Academy of Medical Administrators and Health Care Executives of Southern California. The commission advises the supervisors on patient care policies and programs.

Marvin Malecha, dean of the school of environmental design at Cal Poly Pomona, has been named president of the California Council of Architectural Education. Malecha received an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and a graduate degree from Harvard University. He serves on the board of directors of Architects for Social Responsibility in Los Angeles and on the Master Jurors Committee of the National Council of Architectural Registration. He lives in Claremont.
