Tustin : Forum Set on Cleanup Plan for Marine Station
A state water board will hold a public forum Monday on cleanup plans submitted by the Marine Corps Helicopter Air Station for contaminated soil at a former waste disposal site.
The cleanup project affects 100,000 square feet of soil saturated with jet fuel from two pits on the base, according to James R. Bennett, executive officer for the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Santa Ana Region.
Jet fuel had been routinely set afire for training purposes for two decades, Bennett said.
The forum will allow the public to comment on the Marine Corps’ plans, Bennett said.
Copies of those plans are available at the Orange County Public Library, Tustin Branch, 345 E. Main St., and at the water board’s offices, 6809 Indiana Ave., Suite 200, Riverside.
The hearing will be held at 2 p.m. at the Tustin City Council chambers, 300 Centennial Way.
