A scholarship fund has been established at Orange High School in memory of Mark Edward Brittain, a 27-year-old former student who was killed in a traffic accident earlier this week when a wrong-way driver collided head-on with his vehicle.

The Mark Brittain Memorial Fund was created by state Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach). Brittain’s mother, JoAnn, had been a longtime member Bergeson’s staff.

Bergeson described Brittain as a talented and capable man who excelled at athletics and academics at Orange High. Most recently, she said, the Newport Beach resident was a dental student at USC.

“Mark was a very special young man,” Bergeson said. “I hope this fund will serve to inspire other young people to the level of personal and academic success Mark attained.”

Brittain was killed at 3:30 a.m. Sunday when Reva Liberty, 24, of Orange, who was driving east in the westbound lanes of the Riverside Freeway in Anaheim, collided head-on with his car. She also died.

Donations may be sent to the Mark Brittain Memorial Fund, c/o Orange High School, 525 N. Shaffer St., Orange 92667.
