Richard L. Johnston has resigned as president of the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees for health reasons, but he hopes to remain on the board until his term expires in December, 1988. He announced his decision at the board meeting on Wednesday.
Johnston said that, by limiting his schedule through resigning as president--a post that involves extra duties--he will be able to serve his term as a regular member of the board. Johnston underwent six-way heart bypass surgery in December, 1985.
Johnston has served on the board since 1973, and represents District D, which includes East San Diego, Normal Heights, Kensington, Rolando Park, downtown San Diego and Golden Hill. He previously served on the San Diego Unified School District board.
The board will elect a new president next week.
