FT. IRWIN, Calif. — The commanding officer of the U.S. Army National Training Center and four others were injured when a military helicopter crashed during a rainstorm on the sprawling Mojave Desert base, officials said Friday.
Brig. Gen. Horace G. (Pete) Taylor was taken to Humana Hospital-Sunrise in Las Vegas, where he was listed in stable condition with a broken collarbone and broken ribs, base spokeswoman Jeanette Bryant said.
The UH-1H “Huey” helicopter crashed Thursday at 9 p.m. during a storm. Bryant said the cause of the accident was under investigation by military authorities and it was unclear if weather was a factor.
