Berkeley police tore down a tent city erected by the homeless a month ago and arrested six people for investigation of unauthorized occupation of a public place. Homeless activists had set up the tent city to protest the plight of an estimated 800 people in Berkeley who are without housing. About 25 people abandoned the tent city last week, leaving about a dozen residents and four tents. After the arrests, six homeless people continued to sleep on the steps of the Veterans Administration Building.
