Federal authorities handed over $1.09 million in forfeited drug money to the Ontario and Montclair police departments for their roles in a 1985 seizure that was the largest in San Bernardino County history. Local police officers, including Montclair Police Department’s narcotics detector dog Maik, worked with federal agents on the investigation that led to seizure of $1.74 million in cash from the trunk of a Chevrolet parked near an Ontario motel. Recent legislation allows federal authorities to transfer a portion of forfeited drug-related money or property to local law enforcement agencies. Ontario police received a check for 40% of the proceeds, and 20% went to Montclair.
