World-record holder Eamonn Coghlan will compete in the fourth annual $25,600 Buick 10K, to be run through downtown San Diego May 31.

Coghlan, who holds the world record for the indoor mile (3 minutes 49.78 seconds), recently broke Steve Scott’s indoor world record at 2,000 meters with a 4:54.07 at The Times/GTE Indoor Games in the Forum in February.

First-place finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions will receive $5,000 each. A second-place finish is worth $3,000 for the men and $2,500 for the women, and third place is $1,500 for the men and $1,000 for the women. The top nine male finishers and top seven women will receive cash prizes.

There also is a $1,000 bonus for setting a course record. Both men’s and women’s records were set at last year’s race. Michael Musyoki set the men’s record with a time of 28:17, and Lynn Williams ran 32:14 to set the women’s mark.
