Europe’s soccer authority ruled in Berne, Switzerland, that English teams will continue to be banned from continent-wide club competitions for at least another year.
The Union of European Football Association’s Executive Committee, in what it said was a majority decision, agreed to review the situation again in 1988.
The exclusion was imposed after the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster in Brussels, where riots, mostly blamed on English fans, caused the death of 39 people at the European Champions’ Cup final between English champion Liverpool and Italian champion Juventus.
