McLean, Blankenship Win Saugus Openers
Bill McLean of Canoga Park and Dave Blankenship of Reseda each won season-opening races at Saugus Speedway on Friday night.
McLean captured the main event, a 25-lap hobby stock race, despite starting 19th in a 25-car field. He moved into the lead by the 10th lap and held on for the win. Blankenship finished second, followed by Joe Barreras Jr. of Canyon Country, Steve Bock of Chatsworth and Steve Tollefson of North Hollywood.
In the 15-lap Figure-8 event, Blankenship overtook McLean on the final lap to earn the victory. McLean held on for second place, followed by Larry Greenspan of Agoura, Kenny Wilson of West Hills and Oly Olson of Canoga Park.
Scheduled races in the foreign stock and jalopy division were not held because of a lack of entrants.
Racing resumes March 20 with races scheduled for hobby stocks, foreign stocks and the jalopy division. The track will be open for practice Saturday.
