Norwalk : Builder’s Restrictions Lifted

Share

The Norwalk City Council has approved, by 3-2 vote, a request from a developer to remove prohibited uses from its conditional-use permit to build a 79-unit motel and commercial center at Imperial Highway and Pioneer Boulevard.

Tai International Inc., based in Artesia, asked the council to allow certain businesses in its project. The permit and a precise development plan were approved in June.

Among uses the developer wants to include in the shopping center are an auto parts store, dry cleaning establishment, video store and pastry shop. The council originally excluded those commercial uses of the land.

Planning Commissioner Charles Fuentes argued against the request, saying that the developer had agreed to exclude the uses because the city “wanted a high-class development.”

Councilwomen Grace Napolitano and Margaret (Peg) Nelson voted against the proposal.
