Neighbors’ Phone Calls Tip Officers to Drug Operation

Share

Calls from neighbors about a strong chemical smell wafting from an apartment in the 3600 block of 40th Street led police to a San Diego methamphetamine lab Saturday.

Police found several gallons of ether and a half-pound of the drug about 2 p.m., Sgt. Jim Wallace said.

“Neighbors called to complain about the strong smell of the ether, and when police responded they realized it was indeed a meth lab,” Wallace said.

The Fire Department was called to dispose of the chemicals, and investigators from the county Narcotics Task Force also were called to the scene, Wallace said.

One suspect was arrested, but he had not been booked by police and his name was unavailable late Saturday, Wallace said.
