Orange County College Roundup : Mota’s Double in 10th Gives Titans a Sweep

Andy Mota doubled home Tony Trevino in the 10th inning Saturday to give Cal State Fullerton a 3-2 victory over Texas Christian University at Titan Field.

Fullerton’s Mark Baca sent the game into extra innings with a two-out, two-run single in the ninth.

Trevino singled to left with one out in the 10th, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored easily on Mota’s double to left-center field, giving the Titans a three-game sweep of the series.

Fullerton’s Larry Casian (3-1) pitched an eight-hitter, giving up one earned run.

Fullerton (17-9) has won six straight and 10 of 11. TCU is 14-12.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Azusa Pacific 5-9, Southern California College 2-22--Southern California College hit seven home runs, three in the first inning, to win the second game and earn a split of a doubleheader at Azusa Pacific. Kevin Kasper hit two home runs and Joe Holden, Matt Kanopsis, Carlos Salazar, Mike Lomeli and Randy Frazier one each for SCC (4-2, 7-14). Frazier had five RBIs and Kasper and Holden had four.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. softball:

USIU 4, Chapman 3--Roddy Wilburn allowed four hits in eight innings to lead United States International University to the nonconference victory at Hart Park.

Cal State Bakersfield 3-9, Chapman 1-0 (first game, 10 innings)--Chapman took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning of the first game on Leslie Burke’s double, but Bakersfield tied it in the sixth and won with two runs in the 10th inning. In the second game, Bakersfield had 12 hits. Chapman is 1-5, 5-14.

In South Coast Conference community college baseball:

Golden West 15, Pasadena 2--The Rustlers (4-3, 8-5) had 16 hits and scored in six of the nine innings to win at Pasadena (1-6 in conference).

Tony Follico and Chip Damato each had three hits for Golden West; Tom Smythe and Coley McClendon hit home runs.

Fullerton 10, El Camino 2--Fullerton had 12 hits and nine walks off five El Camino pitchers. Shawn Blankenship was 2 for 2 with a double, run scored and RBI for Fullerton (6-1, 10-4-2). Fullerton’s Emmitt Cohick was 1 for 3 with a run and 2 RBIs. Brad Hopper (3-0) pitched six innings and allowed both runs and four hits. El Camino is 3-4 and 11-7-1.

In nonconference community college baseball:

Rancho Santiago 11, Cal Poly Pomona JV 3--Chris Chase was 3 for 3 with an RBI to help the Dons at Rancho Santiago. Rich Gonzales, Scott Swearingen, Wade Clester and Brent Reese each had two RBIs for Rancho Santiago (10-3).
