Four men wearing wigs and false beards sneaked into the personnel office of the Paris Opera Thursday and stole $58,300 from the safe, police said. The thieves set off tear-gas bombs to disable employees and then emptied the safe of money that was to have paid about 1,300 opera staff members. “It was a day when the cash box was full,” said a police investigator, adding that the men were “perfectly informed” about the location of the safe and its contents. After taking the money the four thieves fled with ease from the labyrinthine opera building.
