8 Hurt, 2 Seriously, in Head-on Oceanside Crash

A head-on collision in Oceanside early Sunday left eight people injured, two of them seriously, and prompted police to close a two-mile stretch of Oceanside Boulevard for almost eight hours, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 1:20 a.m. when an eastbound car in the 3300 block of Oceanside Boulevard apparently crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a limousine carrying seven people, police spokeswoman Diana Riehm said.

Robert Titterington, the car’s driver, suffered severe internal injuries and was taken to Tri-City Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Sunday night. Among the limousine’s passengers, a woman described only as Mandy, 25, suffered the most serious injuries--to the chest, leg and face--and was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. A hospital spokeswoman said she was in stable condition.

Another woman whose last name also is unknown, Tamara, 28, also was taken to Scripps with chest injuries. The remaining six passengers, including two young children, suffered moderate injuries. Their identities and medical condition were not released Sunday.

The collision littered a wide area with debris, and police closed the road, one of Oceanside’s major east-west corridors, between El Camino Real and College Boulevard so investigators could examine the scene in daylight.
