Ultrasystems Defense and Space Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Irvine-based Ultrasystems Inc., said it has received 10 new contracts and 29 extensions on existing contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense--a package worth a total of $15.1 million.

The new contracts, totaling $6.3 million, include the design and development of software and hardware and systems engineering, said John Dean, chief executive and chairman of Ultrasystems Defense and Space. The largest pact is valued at $2.4 million.

Ultrasystems competed against three other companies for four of the new contracts, Dean said.
