A helicopter airlifted six Boy Scouts and their leader from a wintry wilderness 14 miles north of Ojai after they became trapped by snow during a weekend camp-out on Pine Mountain. Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said the boys, aged 12 to 16, set out with their leader, Bob Ashbrener, for a two-day hike but bad weather prevented their return. The youths were dressed warmly and had food with them for an extra night, but the weather prevented helicopters from flying into the area until skies finally cleared and the wind subsided. Authorities said the youngsters, tired but unharmed, were at the 4,500- to 5,000-foot level of Reyes Peak, east of California 33.
