SDSU to See Another Candidate

SAN DIEGO — San Diego State will interview another candidate for its vacant basketball coaching position today, Athletic Director Fred Miller said Tuesday. However, Miller declined to identify the candidate.
Tim Grgurich, a Nevada Las Vegas assistant, is the only candidate to have interviewed twice for the opening created by the resignation of Smokey Gaines. Miller said Tuesday that there is “not a signed deal” with any candidate.
Grgurich is in Las Vegas helping UNLV prepare for its NCAA West Regional semifinal game against Wyoming Friday in Seattle. UNLV Coach Jerry Tarkanian said that if SDSU decides to sign Grgurich, “it doesn’t make any difference to me” if the announcement is made while the Runnin’ Rebels are still in the NCAA tournament.
Al Luginbill, an SDSU associate athletic director, said, “We originally said we wanted to have this in place by the Final Four. I still think that’s reasonable.”
