SYMPHONY ANNOUNCES 9 CONCERTS

The Pacific Symphony has announced soloists and partial repertory for nine concerts on its 1987-88 classical music season at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

The season will open Oct. 14 with a program featuring bass Jerome Hines, who will appear with the Pacific Chorale under the direction of Keith Clark. Repertory will be announced later. This program will be repeated Oct. 16.

The remainder of the season:

--Oct. 28 and 30: Clarinetist Richard Stoltzman; program to be announced.

--Nov. 1 and 13: Pianist Horacio Gutierrez in Brahms’ Concerto No. 1 in D minor; remainder of program to be announced.

--Dec. 16-17: Pianist Claudio Arrau in Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 in E-flat, “Emperor.”

--Jan. 21-22: Soloists and program to be announced.

--Feb. 29-March 1: Flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal.

--March 28-30: Violinist Yehudi Menuhin in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D.

--April 21-22: Program, conductor and soloists to be announced.

--May 19-20: Tenor James McCracken; Pacific Chorale, Clark conducting.
