After 14 years as the top official of Irvine Unified School District, Supt. A. Stanley Corey announced this week that he will retire on June 30.

Corey, 62, made his announcement at the regular school board meeting. The board had offered Corey a new contract, but Corey said that while he appreciated the offer, he planned to retire.

“I have enjoyed the rare opportunity to have a key leadership role in the creation and development of Irvine Unified School District,” Corey said. He added that he has no firm plans for the future, and he said he would be enjoying reading, camping and fishing.
