Fullerton : It Was Payday, But Not for Everybody

As a favor to his co-workers, a 21-year-old Fullerton man cashed their paychecks Friday at his bank, as well as his own.

But as it turned out, it didn’t amount to much of a favor, Fullerton Police Lt. Bud Lathrop said.

Moments after the young man emerged from the bank, he was robbed at knifepoint and relieved of the co-workers’ money ($2,400) and the company van he had been driving. The young man was left with only the proceeds from his own paycheck in his pocket, Lathrop said.

Lathrop declined to identify the robbery victim, saying he was “too embarrassed” by the incident to be identified.

The robbery took place at 10:52 a.m., said Lathrop, as the young man emerged from Security Pacific Bank on North Harbor Boulevard and was approached by a man who displayed a knife.

The robber “was last seen driving away into the sunset with this van,” Lathrop said.
