Citing a 20% drop in enrollment since 1981, the San Bernardino Community College District has issued layoff notices to 40 faculty members and 22 administrators. The district, which operates both San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino and Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, said it needs to cut about $4 million out of its budget next year. Last year’s operating budget was $31.1 million.
