Multimillionaire George P. Oakes, former mayor of Hayward, has been ordered to serve 120 nights in jail for killing two people while driving drunk. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Stanley P. Golde said the 66-year-old developer, who was convicted four years ago for felony drunk driving and two counts of vehicular manslaughter, will be allowed to manage his real estate business during the day, but will be confined to an East Oakland jail at night. Oakes was on the Hayward City Council for 22 years and mayor in 1963 and 1964. He already has paid a $10,000 fine and served a court-ordered 400 hours of community service. He expressed disappointment that the jail term was not waived.
