Gunmen shot and wounded the Bank of Tokyo’s top executive in Peru today in an assault on the streets of central Lima.

Police said the banker, identified as Tadao Sawaki, was on his way to work in a chauffeur-driven car when he was attacked only a block from his office by three gunmen firing submachine guns. Sawaki was taken to the hospital, where doctors said they removed three bullets from his thigh, knee and left arm. They said he was listed in satisfactory condition and would survive.
