“Dick Clark’s All-Time Hits, Vol. 1.” Various artists. Dick Clark Compact Discs (AAD). A rock retrospective compiled by one with Clark’s credentials should offer more perspective and insight than this haphazard, CD-only collection of ‘50s hits. In fact, the only apparent thread behind the 15 choices, which range from perfect (Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Whole Lot of Shakin’ Goin’ On”) to stultifying (Paul Anka’s “Diana”), is that most were Top 10 singles. There are too many other more thoughtful and more generous (only 38 minutes playing time here) collections available to recommend this one. Sound quality: good.
