Palmer, Player Set for Skins Game
Gary Player and Arnold Palmer, big winners in the original Skins Game in 1983, head a select field in the Senior Tour version of the event today at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
Dale Douglass, Bruce Crampton and Chi Chi Rodriguez will join Palmer and Player in the $36,000 Centinela Hospital Medical Center event, which will open the GTE Senior tournament. The fivesome will tee off at 1 p.m.
The first three holes are worth $2,000 to the winner, the next three $4,000 and the last three $6,000.
In the original television Skins Game, Player earned $170,000, Palmer $100,000.
The $275,000 tournament over the 7,020-yard Wood Ranch course will begin its 54-hole run Friday, after a two-day pro-am. Douglass is the defending champion, having won at MountainGate Country Club when the tournament was called the Johnny Mathis Classic.
