Second baseman Julio Cruz, who signed a multimillion-dollar contract after the 1983 season, was released by the Chicago White Sox.
If he is not picked up by another team, the White Sox will be stuck with the three remaining years of his contract, which reportedly pays him about $800,000 a year.
