Kidnapers Kill Officer

ROME —
Two kidnapers killed a policeman and wounded another in a battle Tuesday after they abducted a woman, police said. The kidnapers--a man and a woman--later released the woman, Silvia Leonardi, 24, and police backed by helicopters launched a massive hunt for the pair northeast of Rome. The reason for the kidnaping was not immediately known.
